Hloks Ramagole has revealed that the condition of hospitalised South African bantamweight champion Ronald ‘King’ Malindi is improving even though bullets are yet to be removed from his head.
Malindi was admitted at the Helen Joseph Hospital after he was shot in Westbury, Johannesburg, two weeks ago.
Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in Gauteng Ramagole, who is Malindi’s spokesperson, said: “His condition is better except that he picked up pneumonia. He’s stable, but the bullets have not been removed yet.
“According to the information I received, the bullets can be removed on Tuesday. They are waiting for a neuro-surgeon who’s coming tomorrow. The neuro-surgeon gave him something so that it can assist in the swelling so that they can remove the bullets. He’s responding so well, he can hear when you talk to him. It’s just that he can’t talk.”
Malindi, who is unbeaten in 19 fights, has defended his national title four times. He’s only one win away from gaining outright ownership of the SA bantamweight belt.
