The board of Boxing South Africa (BSA), which began its three-year tenure in May this year, will make its first appearance before Parliament’s portfolio committee on sport, arts and culture on Tuesday.
Board chairperson Sifiso Shongwe together with Dr Luvuyo Bayeni, Sakhiwe Sodo, Luxolo September, Dr Koketjo Tsebe, Romy Titus and Nande Mhashe were appointed by former Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa.
“On Tuesday, the board of Boxing South Africa as well as the chief executive officer will be present before the portfolio committee on sport,” Shongwe revealed.
The report of the auditor-general on BSA’s finances during the 2023/24 financial year is going to be dissected during the board’s appearance before the portfolio committee.
“We will be making the submissions we got in the AG’s report regarding the status of the entity and our plans going forward. We hope that the presentation will be well received. We hope that the answers that are prepared for the portfolio will be well received. We look forward to that engagement,” Shongwe remarked.
Ink Sport has it on good authority that the AG’s report paints a grim picture on how BSA’s money was handled as there were no proper controls over the regulator’s financial affairs. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
