Makhanda boxer Bongani Fule’s gamble of resigning from his day job to concentrate on his boxing career is paying off.
Fule came out tops as he stopped Abelo Tokwe from Mdantsane in the fourth round to win the vacant Eastern Cape featherweight title at the Ginsberg Community Hall in Qonce on Sunday evening.
“This is the second Eastern Cape title for Fule. He relinquished the Eastern Cape junior-lightweight title that he won when he knocked out Mvuzo Kotobe to campaign in the featherweight division,” Fule’s manager Andile Mshumpela said.
“Fule is a gem that is being processed to reach its fullest potential. He is one of the most disciplened boxer at Tyamzashe Boxing Club.”
Mshumpela added: “He retired from his job to focus in his boxing career. He is now a permanent resident of Mdantsane and his boxing skill tells it all that he is being polished by the likes of Luvuyo Tyamzashe, Mzolisi Yoyo and Lulama Ntoba.”
Already, Fule has secured a date for his next fight, which is going to be an Eastern Cape title defence.
“After his impressive win, Last Born Promotions has promised him his first defence of his Eastern Cape title on the 15 December 2024. Bongani is one boxer who is going to topple Zolisa Batyi as a South African featherweight champion,” Mshumpela said.
