Former South African champion Sabelo Ngebiyana has decided to drop two divisions and return to the junior-bantamweight division.
Ngebiyana, who was stopped by Namibian Fillipus Nghitumbwa at the Ramatex Hall in Windhoek in October last year, is aiming to reclaim the SA junior-bantamweight title.
This title is now held by Landile Ngxeke from Sada. Ngxeke defeated Ngebiyana in an African Boxing Union (ABU) junior-bantamweight title fight at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in December 2016.
“I’ve decided to compete in the junior-bantamweight again. I need to regain my confidence, maybe we can get a rematch with Ngxeke,” Ngebiyana said.
“I want my title back. Remember, I never defended it. I was duped into vacating the South African junior-bantamweight title as I was promised a world title fight.”
Ngebiyana from Komani in the Eastern Cape fought in the bantamweight and junior-featherweight divisions in his last three fights. He’s rated fifth on the current SA junior-featherweight ratings.
