Mapule Ngubane still believes that she did well and deserved to win when she fought against former South African female welterweight champion Rita Mrwebi at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Butterworth campus in October 2012.
Ngubane reckons that a home town decision robbed her of a win over Mthatha-born Mrwebi. Now Ngubane gets an opportunity to avenge that defeat as she defends her SA female middleweight title against Mrwebi at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban this coming Saturday.
“Rita knows very well that she never beat me the first time we met. I won that fight. It’s just that the judges gave her the fight because she was from the province as them,” Ngubane said.
“She stands no chance of beating me now. I’m ready and am going to win this fight and avenge the 2012 loss.”
Pietermaritzburg-born Ngubane is fresh from a fourth round victory over Kenyan boxer Charity Mukami Mujwiri in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African female middleweight title fight at The Ridge Casino in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
On the other hand, Mrwebi goes to the Ngubane fight following a loss to Zimbabwean boxer Monalisa Sibanda in September this year.
