Like the prodigal son of Biblical times, Sibusiso ‘Prince’ Dlomo has returned ‘home’ and reunited with his former trainer Charrit Mukondeleli as he seeks a fresh start to his boxing career.
The 35-year-old Dlomo, who was born in Pietermaritzburg, was a South African junior-welterweight champion when he left Mukondeleli last year and he has now returned to him without the title.
Dlomo came back home empty handed after Ntethelelo Nkosi dethroned him via a ninth round stoppage during a fight which pitted KwaZulu-Natal boxers against each other in Durban in November last year.
“Prince is back with me, he’s back home. I have already helped him apply for a Boxing South Africa licence. And he will still campaign in the junior-welterweight division,” Mukondeleli said.
It was under Mukondeleli’s tutelage that Dlomo won the SA junior-welterweight title after he outpointed Xolani Mcotheli in March 2021. And Mukondeleli led him to three successful title defences. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
