The worst is over now as Sinethemba Blom is back home in Dunoon, Cape Town, after spending almost a week at a Johannesburg hospital following his loss to South African lightweight champion Khaya Busakwe last Saturday.

Blom, who returned home on Saturday, was rushed to hospital when he fell ill after his 10th round stoppage loss to Busakwe during his challenge for the SA lightweight title at Vodaworld in Midrand. He got discharged from hospital on Thursday and spent two more nights in Johannesburg.

“Blom has been discharged from hospital and I took him back to his home in Cape Town. I met his family and explained what happened,” Blom’s manager Lonki Witbooi revealed.

Witbooi added: “He went for a scan after the fight. The scan revealed that there was a minor bleeding and swelling on his brain. A follow up scan on Monday showed that everything was fine.”

Witbooi, who is based in East London, was due to have returned home last Sunday, however, he decided against that and stayed put in Johannesburg to be by Blom’s bedside.

Blom also received visits from acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka, Xaba Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti, who promoted his fight, Mla Tengimfene, Tshele Kometsi, Hloks Ramagole, Busakwe and his trainer Norman Hlabane.

“I would like to thank Tsholofelo Lejaka from BSA and the promoter Ayanda Matiti. They were there for us and Matiti even extended my stay at the hotel. I’m slso grateful to TK for being there for us. What all of them did is much appreciated,” Witbooi said.

“Blom is now going to rest as per the doctor’s orders. I must also emphasise that the doctor has made it clear that Blom can continue with his boxing career.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
