Banyana Banyana will be looking at minimising their mistakes when they clash against Malawi in the semi-finals of the COSAFA Women’s Championship at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Thursday afternoon (15h30).
Having beaten the Malawians 2-1 earlier in the tournament, Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis wants her team to effectively use the chances they create.
“I think as the tournament got on we got better in terms of what we want to do. We started being true to who we are, putting the ball on the ground and moving the ball around,” Ellis said.
Even though Banyana Banyana reached the semi-finals without losing a match, Ellis is worried about how they acquit themselves in front of goals.
“There is still room for improvement. But one challenge in the last match against Mozambique we had 26 goal attempts, only 13 on target, of which we scored three. We’ve got to improve the ratio of goal attempts to shots on target,” Ellis said.
“In the game against Malawi, there’s gonna be no room for error. We will always create opportunities, if we execute our plan very well, we will come out with a positive result, but we need to minimise our mistakes.”
