Former world champion Simphiwe ‘Noxhaka’ Konkco’s long wait to get inside the ring continues.
This comes after Sunday’s tournament where Konkco was going to face Filipino boxer Jonathan Amalcen in Johannesburg was cancelled owing to lack of sponsorships.
The cancellation of the tournament was confirmed to Ink Sport by Uppercut Promotions boss Cyril Lehong on Tuesday evening.
“It is with great regret that I have to announce the cancellation of this Sunday’s tournament. Our failure to secure television rights led to Uppercut Promotions losing our main sponsor,” Lehong revealed.
“We have tried to raise funding through other means and were unfortunately unsuccessful. I sincerely apologise for everything as this is something that I never wanted to do to anyone.”
Lehong added: “I fully understand any anger, disappointment and frustration that will be directed my way. This is not how I wanted to conduct business.”
This is a very big setback to Tsolo-born Konkco, who last fought in October 2019.
Meanwhile, Konkco’s stablemate at Hot Box Gym Hedda Wolmarans was also due to fight at the tournament. She was going to face Chiedza Homakoma.
