Boxing trainer Khangelani Jack has been ‘forced’ to make a very difficult choice ahead of the South African featherweight title fight between his boxers Asanda Gingqi and Zolisa Batyi.
Since it’s practically impossible for Jack to man both boxers’ corners during their fight, he chose to remain with Gingqi while Batyi was sent to train elsewhere.
“I’m going to be in the champion’s corner, that is Gingqi. Both Gingqi and Batyi are my boxers, but they are not training at the same place for the fight,” Jack revealed.
“We had to sit down and then decided on what to do in the build-up to the fight. Letting Batyi go train elsewhere was not an easy decision for me because I have a good relationship with my boxers. However, a decision had to be taken because of the situation we have.”
Batyi, who is originally from Nxarhuni, has spent the past four weeks training under Baba ‘Babes’ Makala in Somerset East. Makala is going to be in Batyi’s corner when he challenges Gingqi.
