Newly-crowned South African featherweight champion Jeff Magagane has insisted that Asanda Gingqi had no plan during their fight at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Magagane easily dethroned Gingqi ending the deposed champion’s one-year reign as an SA featherweight king.

“I took everything in my stride. This was a great fight for me. I didn’t see anything other than that he had no plan during the fight. That made things very easy for me because I had a proper plan for him and I used it effectively,” Magagane said.

Magagane is now the first boxer to defeat Gingqi as he avenged the loss he suffered to the Mdantsane boxer during their days in the amateur ranks.

The new champion’s trainer Alan Toweel said: “We were well prepared for this fight. We knew Gingqi’s limitations and our plan worked very well.”

Magagane from Power Park in Soweto has improved his record to 16 victories (four stoppages) and five defeats while Gingqi dropped to nine wins (six knockouts) and a loss.
