South African champion Jeff Magagane is going to make the first defence of his national featherweight title when he meets Zolisa Batyi from the Eastern Cape in December.
This was confirmed by Magagane, who also revealed that their fight is scheduled for Friday, 2 December, in Polokwane.
“I have chosen to defend my title against Batyi in December. Our fight is going to take place in Polokwane,” Magagane, who is from Power Park in Soweto, confirmed.
Batyi will be attempting to win the title, which Magagane won after he dethroned former champion Asanda Gingqi last month. Gingqi is Batyi’s stablemate and both boxers are trained by Khangelani Jack in Nxarhuni, Eastern Cape.
This is going to be the second time Batyi attempts to win the same title. He lost to Gingqi on points during their fight in East London five months ago.
Meanwhile, Batyi put up an impressive performance when he outpointed Sange Ngoza in an eight-round bout at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) this past Sunday.
