Former world and South African champion Thabo ‘Super Eagle’ Sonjica is sweating buckets at the gym preparing to make a ring come back.
The Duncan Village-born Sonjica is training under Jahman Magatya in Mdantsane and is hoping to secure his licence and restart his boxing career.
“Yes, I’m back at training. I have been training in Mdantsane under Magatya,” the 35-year-old Sonjica remarked.
The erstwhile International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and SA junior-featherweight champion is preparing himself to fight in a heavier division.
“My coach and I sat down and we decided that it will be better for me to campaign in the junior-welterweight division,” Sonjica said.
Sonjica’s last fight was a technical knockout victory over Ghanaian boxer George Krampah in a vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver featherweight title contest at the Mdantsane Indoor Sport Centre almost 10 years ago.
I also can’t wait to see Eagle in the ring again.
