Feeling pity after reading about Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha’s decision to quit boxing, Cape Town-based promoter Jackie Brice of Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions is offering the Mdantsane-born boxer a fight.
Tyirha threw in the towel after failing to secure fights since his shock loss to George Kandulo from Malawi at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in July last year.
“I will see what to do for him to fight on the 30th of June. I’m going to try and fit him in. I just want to see if I can get a sponsor for that fight,” Brice said.
Losing to Kandulo came at a huge price as Tyirha lost his ratings in all major world boxing bodies. Before meeting Kandulo, Tyirha was rated by the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
Inactivity has frustrated Tyirha, a former South African junior-flyweight champion, to a point that he changed stables a number of times this year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
