Veteran boxing trainer Manny Fernandes reckons two-weight division world champion Ricardo Malajika can bully and beat any boxer who campaigns in the junior-bantamweight.
Fernandes said this after Malajika easily destroyed Jackson Chauke in two rounds at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park at the weekend. As a result of the stoppage win, Malajika wrestled the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight crown away from Chauke.
“Chauke has never been stopped before, got stopped in the second round. We fought Yanga who had never been stopped, we stopped him. If (Phumelela) Cafu comes, he has never been stopped, we will stop him,” Fernandes boldly stated.
“We were looking for a knockout in round eight, round 10. But with the power he’s been generating, the training that I’ve been giving him, look what he did. Look at his conditioning also.”
Defeating Chauke meant that Malajika became a two-weight division champion as he’s also the current IBO junior-bantamweight titlist.
“We’re gonna speak to Rodney (Berman). We’ll go back to junior-bantamweight. We are gonna have one or two fights,” Fernandes said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
