There’s a certain belief in the camp of World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-bantamweight title contender, Ricardo ‘Magic Man’ Malajika, as his fight against unbeaten Japanese opponent, Tomoya Tsuboi, is around the corner.
Malajika, who left South Africa for Japan on Wednesday last week, has a date with Tsuboi as they will fight for the vacant WBC junior-bantamweight crown at the Tokyo Arena, Koto-Ku, this coming Sunday.
“It’s all systems go. Ricardo’s weight is very good. He’s where he wanted to be. He’s very positive and very focused at the moment,” Malajika’s trainer, Manny Fernandes, remarked.
“We came here to do a job and we are bringing the title home. It’s definitely not gonna be an easy fight. We are ready. Physically and mentally, Ricardo is 100 percent.”
The 28-year-old Malajika is on a nine-fight winning streak, having last lost when he was beaten by Sikho ‘Sequence’ Nqothole in April 2022. He has registered 17 wins with 12 knockouts and two defeats.
Malajika’s winning streak includes winning the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight and flyweight titles. And he has made four IBO junior-bantamweight successful title defences. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
