After some disappointing moments where he couldn’t fight for the vacant South African junior-welterweight title even though he was eligible to contest it, Sibusiso ‘Mabhere’ Zingange is now excited following the confirmation of the date of his bout against Capetonian, Mika-Eel Jacobs.
Zingange is scheduled to trade leather with the unbeaten Jacobs for the vacant SA junior-welterweight title in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday, 11 December.
The national junior-welterweight crown has been without a king since former champion, Ntethelelo Nkosi, who now campaigns in the welterweight division, relinquished the title after he opted to take part in the WBC Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia.
“I’m excited that we finally have a date. I will do my best and become a South African champion again,” Zingange, a former SA junior-lightweight titlist, said.
Zingange has been itching to fight for the vacant national junior-welterweight title since last year. His fight against Aphiwe Boyiya was postponed on numerous occasions and a clash with Nkosi was turned into a catchweight bout earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Jacobs from Lentegeur in Cape Town has fought three times this year and his last fight was a win over Sanele Msimang in August.
For someone who made his professional debut in August last year, Jacobs has registered seven victories with four stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
