KuGompo City-based boxing trainer-cum-manager, Lonwabo Witbooi, is sticking to his guns as the date of the proposed fight between reigning South African lightweight champion, Khaya Busakwe, and Siyabulela Hem is approaching.
Representing the current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa lightweight titlist, Hlumelo Gingxana from Braelyn in KuGompo City, Witbooi has made it clear that the fight between Busakwe and Hem will only take place once both boxers have made written commitments about defending against his charge later this year.
“My condition still stands. Both Hem and Busakwe must agree to the condition that whoever wins must defend against us. They must confirm that in writing to Boxing South Africa,” Witbooi said.
“Hem has agreed, but the Busakwe camp has not agreed yet. There will be no fight if there’s no agreement with the Busakwe camp. I cannot have one person agreeing to my condition and the other not agreeing.”
The BSA sanctioning committee, through its acting chairperson Droeks Malan, said earlier this week that the fight between Hem and Busakwe won’t be sanctioned as long as there’s no step aside letter from Gingxana.
And should Hem’s fight against Busakwe finally take place, it’s going to be held at KuGompo City’s Selborne Park on Saturday next week. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
