Gqeberha’s 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, will host its first match of the season when Chippa United welcome Kaizer Chiefs in a Betway Premiership encounter on Saturday, 28 November.
The stadium had to wait for more than two months before it hosted its first match of the season due to renovations done at the venue, including the relaying of the pitch.
As the venue was unavailable, the Chilli Boys played two of their category A matches at the King’s Park Stadium in Durban and KuGompo City’s Buffalo City Stadium. The Chilli Boys received a 3-0 whipping from Orlando Pirates in Durban and drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns in KuGompo City.
They also used Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto as their home when they played to a 1-1 draw with Richards Bay FC in a Betway Premiership match.
