The day set for Thulani Mbenge’s opprtunity to upset Michael McKinson from the United Kingdom is fast approaching as the two boxers clash at the Copperbox Arena in London this coming Saturday.
Mbenge faces McKinson in a bid to reclaim the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight title he lost to German Sebastian Formella in July 2019. Mbenge, a two-time South African welterweight champion, has registered five wins and a loss since losing to Formella.
“Everything is good. Fight week is closing fast. All good, all excited and Thulani is pleased to have the opportunity. Thulani is ready to bring the storm in London. He’s super focused and ready. I think it’s gonna be the best performance of his life,” Sean Smith, who trains Mbenge, said.
With 20 wins and 15 stoppages against two defeats, the 33-year-old Mbenge is going to have a media day on Thursday while an official weigh-in is scheduled for Friday.
On the other hand, McKinson from Portsmouth in the UK is not a hard puncher and his record of 26 victories with four knockouts and a loss bears testimony to that. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
