SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo is not fooled by Kaizer Chiefs’
recent form as he reckons that Amakhosi are still dangerous and
competitive despite a bad start to the 2020/21 season.
Tembo and his Matsatsantsa troops face Chiefs, who are 12th on the
DStv Premiership table, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville
on Tuesday evening (19h30)
‘‘Chiefs are a good team. We all know as much as they are struggling,
they are struggling like anyone else. They are still a good team
coached by a good coach, who has won trophies,’’ said Tembo.
‘‘They have very good individuals, your Billiat (Khama), (Samir)
Nurkovic and (Lebogang) Manyama. All the matches we have played with
Chiefs have been tough.’’
Zimbabwe-born Tembo watched Chiefs’ last match against Black Leopards
with keen interest and he picked up a few things, which he believed
needed to be looked at. Amakhosi came from behind to draw 2-2 with
Lidoda Duvha.
‘‘I think for me if I look at their game against Leopards my analysis
only started in the second half. That’s the Chiefs we know, probably
the one we will meet. We need to tread cautious as they are still a
good team,’’ he said.
Matsatsantsa have not played since their 2-1 win over Maritzburg
United on 27 November. Their match against Bloemfontein Celtic was
postponed because Siwelele were busy with a CAF Confederation Cup
assignment.
‘‘For us it is very long since we played against Maritzburg United. We
couldn’t play against Celtic because they were playing in the Confed
Cup,’’ said Tembo.
Matsatsantsa have scored seven times and conceded six goals in five
matches something which is of concern to Tembo.
‘‘Defensively, we need to be compact. There are goals we conceded
which I think we could have done better,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the former Matsatsantsa and Seven Stars defender has
admitted that Clayton Daniels’ departure from his team has hit his
team hard.
‘‘It’s always a blow losing a player in the team. He was an
influential players, always available and played regularly. Losing
Clayton gives an opportunity to players like Luke Fleurs, a youngster
who needs to grab this chance with both hands,’’ said Tembo.
‘‘We also lost Dean Furman, who was the captain of the team and Aubrey
Modiba. Those are top players.’’
