Boxing has taught Lusanda Komanisi some tough lessons in the past few
years and he is now determined to correct everything that went wrong
stalling his once promising career.
And the road to fix everything that went wrong in his career starts on
Saturday evening when Komanisi clashes against Sivenathi Qampi in a
vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight title fight at the
Methodist Church Multipurpose Centre in Wilsonia, East London.
This fight gives the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO)
featherweight champion a chance to redeem himself after he
disappointed his fans a number of times starting when Filipino boxer
Jhack Tepora silenced East London’s Orient Theatre knocking him out a
few years ago.
‘‘We have been working very hard at the gym. We are done preparing for
Qampi even though I must admit that I know nothing about him,’’ the
former South African featherweight champion said.
Normally, Komanisi would go to a fight win one intention – to knock
out his opponent something which later became a problem for him.
‘‘I’m going to make sure that I win on Saturday like I did in my last
fight. I’m not going there for a knockout. I learnt the hard way in my
previous fights thus I stopped aiming for knockouts. I’m an
experienced boxer and my preparations have been different,’’ the
31-year-old Komanisi said.
Komanisi’s fight against Qampi is going to be promoted by Tewo Boxing Promotions.
