Chippa United coach Dan Malesela reckons that the Chilli Boys could have done better during their 1-1 draw with a 10 men Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung on Saturday.
Celtic played the entire second half with 10 men after Mbhazima Rikhotso was sent off following a very bad tackle on Chilli Boys striker Anthony Laffor in the 44th minute.
The Chilli Boys snatched a draw through Bienvenu Eva Nga after Victor Letsoalo had given Celtic the lead from the penalty spot. Match referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa awarded Celtic a penalty after Mduduzi Sibeko had fouled Lucky Baloyi inside the box.
“To summarise, we let go of a chance to get three points. But you know you don’t want to be selfish and not appreciate the point we got away,” Malesela said.
“They were one man down, we probably could have done better to break them down. I think we adhered to the instruction of going around the wingers trying to get balls in. They were compact in the middle, once we did that we the equaliser. But it’s just that we didn’t continue doing that.
“The other critical point is the penalty we conceded. Our player could have avoided contact because the man was not going to be a threat.”
Next up for the Chilli Boys is a home clash against TS Galaxy at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
