The South African Football Association (SAFA) has fired Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki after he failed to take the South African senior men’s national team to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.
A 2-0 away loss to minnows Sudan in Khartoum in Sunday was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Bafana Bafana were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana’s Black Stars at home last Thursday before going to Sudan.
The SAFA national executive committee (NEC) met on Tuesday and decided to fire Ntseki with immediate effect.
The former Lesedifm football analyst was sacked without even having submitted his reports of the Ghana and Sudan matches.
“As head of admin I still have to engage the coach. The aim has always been to qualify. We have failed the nation,” SAFA chief executive officer Tebogo Motlanthe said.
Ntseki was appointed Bafana Bafana coach after SAFA fired Stuart Baxter following his failure in Egypt in 2019.
