Experienced boxing trainer Spokes Witbooi is ready to unleash a ‘merciless’ Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo.
The East London-based trainer is going to bark orders from Sigqibo’s corner when the lad from Duncan Village takes on Filipino boxer Jerald Paclar in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title fight at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha on Saturday, 24 April.
This fight is on the undercard of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight eliminator between unbeaten East London boxer Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta from the Philippines.
“I can tell you now that we are ready, fit and raring to go. I can also tell you now that boxing lovers are going to see something different. If you think Yanga was on top of his game in his last fight then wait for Saturday,” Witbooi said referring to Sigqibo’s seventh round stoppage of Filipino boxer Cris Paulino in East London in March 2020.
Witbooi and Sigqibo are set to leave East London for Gqeberha on Tuesday morning.
“We are going to do psychological and mental work this week. I will also use these few days to motivate Yanga,” Witbooi concluded.
