Given a choice, boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye would have chosen to concentrate on preparing Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile for his fight against British boxer Martin Ward than being concerned about visa applications.
However, with his visa application taking time before it gets processed, Njekanye remains worried even though he continues to spend time fine tuning Fuzile ahead of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight eliminator against Ward at the Michelo Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, United States, on 29 May.
Speaking after returning from Cape Town on Friday, Njekanye said he’s confident that his visa and that of his assistant Yanga Gingxana will be processed soon.
“We are still struggling, nothing is clear yet. I will concentrate on training the boy while waiting for a word from the American Embassy. Training the boy and going to America are very important to us,” Njekanye said.
“The delay in getting the visas affects me directly. The fact that we had to go to the American Embassy in Cape Town shows how serious we are about the fight. We are still waiting for the processes to be through. In the meantime, we remain hopeful and will continue to train the boy.”
The winner of the Fuzile-Ward bout is going to clash against whoever wins between Tajikistan boxer Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov and Kenichi Ogawa from Japan. Rakhimov and Ogawa are set to clash in July.
