The arrival of Duncan Village boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye in the United States on Friday is a fillip for his boxer Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile, who faces Briton Martin Ward on Saturday (Sunday morning SA time).

The former South African featherweight champion clashes with Ward in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight elimination bout at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Njekanye’s late arrival in America followed after he struggled to secure a US visa despite interviews he had at the American Embassy in Cape Town. However, sanity prevailed as he obtained his visa – two days after Fuzile and his promoter Teris Ntutu, Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) chairman, had left for the US.

The winner of the fight between Fuzile and Ward will clash with whoever wins when Tajikistan boxer Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov and Kenichi Ogawa from Japan collide against each other in July. The IBF junior-lightweight title became vacant after former champion Joseph Diaz lost it on the scales before his drawn fight against Rakhimov in February.
