It’s not normal for South African boxers to earn a draw or win in Russia, especially when they come against inexperienced Eastern Europeans.
Free State boxer Sihle Jelwana earned a draw against Rufat Huseynov at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on Saturday.
Huseynov from Azerbaijan went to the fight with three wins and a loss.
Jelwana went to the fight following a technical knockout loss to Namibian Immanuel Josef in a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa flyweight fight.
Meanwhile, Sabelo Ngebiyana lost to Narek Abgaryan from Armenia at the same Russian venue.
