Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is not missing in action as many South African football followers would like to believe.
Broos’ silence has been deafening something which has led to some football followers thinking that the Belgian might have had second thoughts about coaching Bafana Bafana.
It’s, however, not the case as the Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach is busy finalising his squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which begin in September.
“The coach has been back in South Africa, it’s two weeks now,” Tebogo Motlanthe, the chief executive officer of the South African Football Association (SAFA), confirmed on Sunday.
The 69-year-old Belgian is expected to announce his squad for the September World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana.
“He will announce the squad sometime next week. I will confirm the date tomorrow (Monday),” Motlanthe said.
Soon after he was confirmed as Bafana Bafana coach in May, Broos announced that he was returning to his Belgian home for a second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The former Cameroon national team coach was not part of the Bafana Bafana squad, which won the COSAFA Cup tournament in Gqeberha in July.
