Seeing his players dejected after they surrendered the Egyptian Premier League crown to Zamalek on Tuesday night, Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib urged the Red Devils playing personnel to lift their heads and look back at what they have achieved.
Zamalek ended Al Ahly’s five-season reign as Egyptian Premier League champions on Tuesday. The White Knights beat El Entag El Harby 2-0 while the reigning African champions drew 3-3 with El Gouna.
And El Khatib had to encourage his players as they were contemplating what went wrong in their push for a sixth successive league title.
“We are proud of you. You are African champions and the third in the world. You are the best and deserves to be honoured. The loss of a championship in Al Ahly is just the beginning of a lot of achievements,” El Khatib said.
“You are my family and our trust in you is infinitely. Thank you for all the hard season. I’m proud of you, you are able to write a history for your club.”
The former Egypt international also assured the Red Devils’ coaching staff about the safety of their jobs.
“Our confidence in the technical, administrative and medical systems is without borders,” he said.
