A groin strain Mothobi Mvala picked up in Mamelodi Sundowns’ opening DStv Premiership match against AmaZulu last month is a thing of the past now.
The Sundowns midfielder reckons that he has fully recovered and is ready to play when Bafana Bafana face Zimbabwe in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the National Sports Stadium in Harare at 15h00 on Friday.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) I had a full session with the team. It felt good and I didn’t feel any troubles. The doctors were always managing me. Everything went well. I think I’m ready,” he said.
The 27-year-old Mvala from Masilo, Theunissen, in the Free State, has revealed that it was the first time in his football career that he suffered a groin strain.
With Mvala not taking part in full training sessions earlier this week, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos was forced to call Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo as cover in case the Sundowns man didn’t recover from injury.
“I was not too worried and had no problem with another player being called to replace me. It’s a good thing that we had cover,” the former Highlands Park midfielder said.
