Worry not boxing lovers, the fight between Abdul-Aziz Kunert and Asanda Gingqi, which you have been looking forward to, is happening.
It was rumoured on Friday morning that the tournament where the two boxers were featured had been called off, but Bonglez Boxing Promotions boss Bongani Dlamini’s quick thinking and willingness to chip in when he’s needed has saved the Sunday, 26 September tournament.
It looked like the tournament scheduled for Booysens Boxing Gym was going to be postponed or cancelled after Boxing South Africa (BSA) had initially refused to sanction it because the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association (GBPA) is not a licensee.
“There were some issues related to the tournament. Thankfully, everything has been resolved now. We are going ahead and there is no change in the line-up of the tournament,” Dlamini confirmed.
The tournament is headlined by a South African junior-welterweight title fight between defending champion Prince Dlomo and Siseko Makeleni while Kunert clashes against Gingqi in a vacant SA featherweight title contest in the main supporting bout.
