Following a magnificent performance, which earned him a points victory over Filipino boxer Jaysever Abcede in East London, Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha has thanked his corner led by Khangelani Jack for making it possible for him to chalk up yet another win.
Tyirha dusted himself up after a shock first round knock down and put on a dominant display against Abcede to win the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global junior-flyweight title fight in a battle of southpaws at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday evening.
Abcede dropped Tyirha with a big left hand in the first round. The knock down proved to be a wake up call to Tyirha, who dished out an impressive performance soon afterwards.
“I thank my supporters. I thank my coaches. I will never go wrong when I listen to them,” Tyirha remarked.
“I was fit for this fight. He caught me in the first round, but I told myself that I was gonna carry on because I am a champion.”
The former South African junior-flyweight champion’s performance was simply brilliant. Tyirha showed his class with impressive movements inside the ring and landed his punches at will.
All three judges nodded in agreement giving Tyirha the fight with Pumeza Zinakile scoring it 116-111, Sipho Ndongeni 117-110 and Sithembele Tom 117-110.
Meanwhile, Tyirha’s trainer Khangelani Jack revealed that the 22-year-old boxer’s discipline pulled them through.
“I thank God for this chance. At the same time, I want to thank this champion for his discipline and dedication,” Jack said.
“He respects me a lot. Whatever we do at the gym, he makes sure he’s the best. I will keep on pushing with him. It’s all about dedication and discipline then we will go forward.”
