Malawi are going to play against Tanzania in the final of the COSAFA Women’s Championship on Saturday.
This comes after the Malawians beat Banyana Banyana 3-2 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Thursday afternoon.
The Malawians opened the scoring with Fazila Chembezeko’s goal in the 38th minute. Sibulele Holweni equalised for Banyana Banyana in added time to make it 1-1 at the break.
The Malawians restored their lead when two-goal heroine Sabinah Thom netted in the 74th minute.
Banyana Banyana were awarded a penalty and Holweni made no mistake from the spot kick in the 81st minute.
Poor defending by the Banyana Banyana defence gifted Malawi with the third goal. In her attempt to make a clearance, Banyana Banyana defender Bambanani Mbane passed the ball straight to Thom, who beat Kaylin Swart in goals.
Both Malawi and Tanzania have reached the final of the competition for the first time.
Meanwhile, the Tanzanians beat Zambia 3-2 on penalties in an earlier match. The clash was decided on penalties after the two sides had drawn 1-1 in 90 minutes.
