Shakur Stevenson is the new World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-lightweight champion after he stopped Jamel Herring on Sunday morning (South African time).
Unbeaten Stevenson dominated Herring and the 10th round stoppage bore testimony to his dominance during the fight, which was held at the State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. Fight referee Mark Nelson intervened after seeing that Herring was in serious trouble.
The 24-year-old southpaw is now a two-division world champion having been a WBO featherweight titlist before.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Herring from Cincinnati failed to make a successful fourth defence of the title.
