Rulani Mokwena knows that his team Mamelodi Sundowns had a tough time during their MTN8 final against Cape Town City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.

The Brazilians defeated the Citizens 3-2 on penalties after the two sides had drawn 1-1 in 120 minutes.

“It’s been a long wait. They say good things come to those who wait. It was filled with a lot of drama,” the Sundowns co-coach said.

Mokwena reiterated that Sundowns and the Citizens dished out beautiful football.

“Good football from both teams. Some moments where we were under pressure. We had to remain strong, especially in the second half. But that’s because they have a very good side, very good players, very good coach. Cape Town City were worthy opponents,” Mokwena said.

Meanwhile, Citizens coach Eric Tinkler gave credit to the Brazilians for giving his team a run for their money.

“Credit must go to Sundowns. First half they were the better team. I thought they created a number of opportunities, they got the goal from a mistake that we made,” Tinkler remarked.

“They came at us, they combined very well. We struggled to contain them. Second half we started to control the ball a little bit easier. We started to combine a lot better once we got the goal.”
