Ayabonga ‘Jay Jay’ Sonjica didn’t give his opponent Kasimu Hamad Haji any chance to maneuver during their fight at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday.
Sonjica from Duncan Village stopped Haji in the second round to win the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa junior-featherweight belt. A nice combination of blows from Sonjica floored Haji, who was counted out by referee Nkosinathi Mbelu.
On the other hand, Yanga Sigqibo and Lerato Dlamini made sure that Tanzanian boxers returned home winless.
Sigqibo stopped Hamidu Kwata in the sixth round while Dlamini beat Hassan Ndonga by a second round stoppage in their catchweight bouts.
