Phila Mpontshane has overcame the disappointment of not being able to defend his South African junior-lightweight title following a positive COVID-19 test and is now back sweating it out at the gym.
Mpontshane from Mdantsane is scheduled to defend his title against Sibusiso Zingange in Johannesburg on Thursday, 24 February.
The two boxers were due to have squared up against each other last month, but the bout was called off after Mpontshane tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before the fight.
This is going to be 31-year-old Mpontshane’s fifth defence of the title he won when he defeated then champion Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya in December 2016.
Meanwhile, Mpontshane has not fought since losing to Khanyile Bulana in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Continental Africa junior-lightweight title fight in September 2019.
