Nkululeko ‘Bulldog’ Mhlongo, who is one of South Africa’s oldest boxers, is not concerned about the change of opponent ahead of his nationnal middleweight title defence.
Initially, Mhlongo was scheduled to put his SA title on the line in a fight against Ayanda ‘Nyamazane’ Mthembu. However, things have changed now as Mhlongo, who received his national junior-middleweight championship belt from Boxing South Africa (BSA) recently, will defend his crown against Snamiso Ntuli at the Victoria Mxenge Indoor Sports Centre in Umlazi, Durban, on Sunday, 27 February.
“I have been told that my opponent has been changed. Changing an opponent is not a problem to me. That has not affected the way I’m preparing for this fight,” the 40-year-old Mhlongo said.
“I’m not worried about fighting these young boys, they don’t bother me at all. They are still learning the art of boxing. I’m going to teach Snamiso boxing. He’s gonna learn a lot from me.”
Meanwhile, Mhlongo from Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal, goes to the Ntuli duel following a stunning eighth round stoppage of Namibian boxer Lukas Ndalofuma in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa middleweight title fight at the Windhoek County Club Resort and Casino in Namibia last December.
