Fresh from a 1-0 home loss to Baroka FC in a Nedbank Cup last-32 clash, Stellenbosch FC have now shifted their focus to their DStv Premiership matches as they welcome Swallows FC on Wednesday (17h30).

Third-placed Stellies face the Dube Birds, who are desperate to move up the Premiership standings as they are 15th on the log, at the Danie Craven Stadium in the Cape Winelands.

“It’s important to focus our energies on the league, which is our bread and butter. We have managed to get ourselves into a strong position on the table, but it’s important now that we finish the remainder of the league very positively, confidently with belief that we can maintain the sort of position we are in,” Barker said.

Barker’s target at the beginning of the season was to get to 30 points in no time. He’s closer to achieving that as Stellies have collected 29 points from 18 matches after winning seven times, drawing eight and losing three.

“We do understand that we have to make sure that we start creating and scoring more of our chances having only scored 18 goals in 18 matches. We need to be doing better,” Barker remarked.

“We are looking forward to the Swallows match. There’s no easy game, we all know that we have to pitch, we need to put in a big performance, that’s a key game for us. We would like to surpass the 30 mark on Wednesday and still have 11 matches to play points for. Our initial objective was to get the 30 points as quickly as possible. We have the opportunity to get there and have 33 points to play for thereafter. Then we will reset our objectives and targets.”
