Royal AM coach John Maduka believes that his team had to reach the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup following a 3-2 win over the University of Pretoria at a rainy Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Sunday.
Thwihli Thwahla came back from 2-0 down at the break to snatch the win in added time. Victor Letsoalo scored a brace with the winning goal coming from Mfundo Thikazi while Wonderboy Makhubu netted twice for AmaTuks.
“The pitch made it very, very difficult. If you look at it, it was very slow. And again, coming to the match, we knew we would be able to pick up. We did exactly that,” Maduka said.
“Unfortunately, the time we started playing we had already conceded goals. We had to put the ball together, play our normal game. We had to be in the semi-finals.”
Meanwhile, AmaTuks coach Tlisane Motaung congratulated Royal AM for winning the match against the GladAfrica Championship side.
“Royal AM deserved to win the game because they did very well. From my boys, I’m proud of them. We wanted to apply something different, but the conditions didn’t allow us,” Motaung said.
