Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is adamant that records have to be smashed after he became the first player to score 20 goals or more since the 2011/12 season.
Shalulile netted a hattrick during Sundowns’ 6-0 drubbing of Lamontville Golden Arrows in Pretoria on Tuesday and broke a 10-year 20 goals record set by former Moroka Swallows forward Siyabonga Nomvete during the 2011/12 season.
“I always want the team to do better, then the rest will follow. With hard work you won’t go wrong, that’s why I keep scoring,” Shalulile, who has scored 49 goals in 75 matches since joining Sundowns, said.
“Records are meant to be broken. We are all there to break them, that’s what I wanna do. To be honest, I want to scoro more goals and win cups.”
Afternoon bagging the hattrick – his second this term – against Abafana Bes’thende, the Namibian equalled the 21 goals former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen Ndlanya scored for Amakhosi during the 1998/99 season. He has now scored more goals this campaign than AmaZulu, Sekhukhune United, Marumo Gallants, Maritzburg United, Chippa United, Swallows FC, TS Galaxy and Baroka FC.
The 28-year-old former Highlands Park star striker is only four goals away from equalling Collins Mbesuma’s 25 goals he scored for Chiefs during the 2004/5 season.
