Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies believes that a poor performance which brings three points is better than playing very well and getting nothing in the end.
Lentjies said this after the Chilli Boys defeated Stellenbosch FC 1-0 in a DStv Premiership match at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Sunday.
“Three points, I think we waited for the supporters to arrive. Much-needed three points, on to the next one,” the former Chilli Boys midfielder said.
The Gqeberha-based Chilli Boys were under pressure throughout the first half and survived because of their defensive abilities.
“Obviously, not happy with the first 45 minutes. They had a couple of chances from the playing point of view. They were much more structured than us. They did well,” Lentjies remarked.
“On other days we played well and walked away with absolutely nothing. We played poorly and got the three points. If you are at the bottom there, you accept the three points the way it came.”
The Chilli Boys’ next game is away to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday, 24 April, while Stellies host Kaizer Chiefs at the Danie Craven Stadium in the Cape Winelands the day before.
