The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) has ordered an interim bantamweight title fight between Briton Paul Butler and Filipino boxer Jonas Sultan.
This comes after WBO bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero from the Philippines was disqualified by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) following his use of a sauna while preparing to face Butler.
The BBBofC has a strict zero tolerance policy when it comes to using a sauna to reduce weight before a fight.
The Butler-Sultan bout is going to take place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, in the United Kingdom this coming Friday.
Meanwhile, the WBO Championship committee has asked Casimero to “show cause” within the next 48 hours as to why his title should not be declared vacant.
Casimero has only defended the title twice – against Ghanaian Duke Micah in September 2020 and Guillermo Rigondeaux from Cuba last August – since dethroning Zolani Tete in November 2019.
