The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) has installed Paul Butler as as its champion after it stripped Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero of the bantamweight title.

This followed after Casimero was barred by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) from fighting against Butler last month because he had used a sauna while preparing for the fight something the BBBofC frowns upon.

A statement from the WBO said: “The committee unanimously recommended to the WBO executive committee to strip John Riel Casimero’s WBO world bantamweight championship title for failure to comply with the conditions set forth in its resolution.”

The statement further added that the WBO executive committee unanimously voted in favour of adopting the championship committee’s recommendation and declared the bantamweight championship title vacant.

Butler, who defeated Jonas Sultan from the Philippines in an interim title fight last month, has since been elevated to full championship status.

Meanwhile, the WBO championship committee recommended to the WBO ratings committee that Casimero be rated number one in the bantamweight ratings and subject to complying with the applicable rating criteria.
