Sinethemba Kotana from Mdantsane is set to become the third Eastern Cape boxer to try to dethrone reigning South African flyweight champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke.
This was confirmed by Kotana’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene after finding out that the boxer has moved up the SA flyweight ratings to number one.
“Kotana is number one now. This is very good news to us, especially if you consider that Kotana is a project. We are definitely going to challenge Chauke,” Tengimfene said.
“At the moment, he is busy with his schooling as he’s going to rewrite three matric subjects starting this coming Friday. He failed maths, accounting and life orientation when he was doing matric in 2015. He got an A in English, B in physical science and C in isiXhosa.”
After cleaning up his act, Kotana came back strongly and won his last three fights. He stopped Sihle Jelwana in March and Lebogang Pilane in December and also recorded a points victory over Mogale Molefe last September.
Kotana is going to be the third Eastern Cape boxer to challenge Chauke. Phumelela Cafu drew with Chauke in March while Luyanda Ntwanambe and Jelwana failed to dethrone the Tembisa-based champion.
