East London boxer Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga is close to getting a date with Hector Flores for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title.
The IBF has already approved the fight between Nontshinga and the Mexican. The only thing pending is the finalisation of the date of the fight.
“The fight will probably be held at the end of July or beginning of August. We are waiting for the contract and will sign it as soon as we get it,” Nontshinga’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan said.
The IBF title became vacant after it was relinquished by Nicaraguan boxer Felix Alvarado in February this year.
Nontshinga, who is rated number one by the IBF and 12th by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO), has not fought since he defeated Filipino boxer Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta in an elimination bout in April last year.
On the other hand, Flores who is third on the IBF ratings is rated 12th by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and fifth by the World Boxing Association (WBA) last fought when he defeated Welshman Jay Harris in November last year.
