Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has thanked everyone involved at the club after they wrapped up the season with a 3-2 away win over Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Monday afternoon.

The champions finished the season with 65 points having won 19 matches, drawn eight and lost three times.

“I think we were very sloppy. Obviously, we are unhappy that we let the foot off the pedal. In footbalI, some of these things can be expected. I think the boys have done very well. We need to thank everyone involved within the club,” Mngqithi said.

The Brazilians have a date with Marumo Gallants in the final of the Nedbank Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, Rustenburg, on Saturday.

And with that in mind, Mngqithi made changes in the second half of the match against Thwihli Thwahla in order to save some of his players’ energy.

“We made four substitutions because we were trying to save some legs because the pitch is very heavy. We’ve got an important match over the weekend so we had to take out some of the players that we think are going to be very important in that match,” he said.
