Mamelodi Sundowns goalpoacher Peter Shalulile has revealed that he felt some pressure as he wanted to break former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma’s record.

Speaking to SAfm’s Sport On programme on Tuesday evening, Shalulile, who scored 23 goals, also revealed that he’s disappointed that he couldn’t smash Mbesuma’s 25-goal record.

“Initially, I felt the pressure of the record, but management calmed me down. They said some things happen through God’s will, but if it doesn’t happen, so be it,” Shalulile said.

“I’m a bit disappointed, but I tried. I was even practicing penalties because I don’t usually take them. But I was ready.”

Shalulile also added that he’s not happy with his conversion rate despite finishing the season as the DStv Premiership top goal scorer.

“If I had to rate my season, I would give myself a six out of 10. I’m not happy with my conversion rate. I got at least three chances every match and I didn’t convert all of them,” Shalulile said.

“I’ve already started working for next season. I got this mentality from Cristiano Ronaldo. There is no time to rest. I feel like if I rest, I’ll be left behind. There’s still lots of room for improvement.”

The 28-year-old Shalulile, who joined the Brazilians from Highlands Park before the beginning of last season, still dreams of playing overseas.

“This season I found that I was tightly marked. That’s why we had to change the way we play a bit. Those three coaches are very smart. They know what they are doing. My dream is to go overseas. If that opportunity comes along, I will appreciate it. But so far there’s nothing that I know, even though I’ve heard some people talking,” he said.
