Mthatha-born South African minimumweight champion Bangile Nyangani’s star continues to shine as he is rated in the top 15 by the world’s top four boxing bodies.
Nyangani is the highest rated South African boxer in both the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) ratings. He’s rated seventh and 13th by the WBA and WBO respectively.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) rates him in 15th spot while the International Boxing Federation (IBF) has him in ninth position.
Only International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight titlist Ayanda Ndulani, in fourth spot, and Simphiwe Konkco, who is eighth, are rated above Nyangani by the WBC with Ndulani and Siphamandla Baleni in sixth and seventh positions respectively in the IBF.
“This is good. We are moving up steadily. There is no rush. The more he wins, the higher he goes in the ratings,” Nyangani’s trainer Alan Toweel said.
Nyangani defeated Loyiso Ngantweni on points in his first defence of his SA title in April. He won the SA title when he dethroned Siyakholwa Kuse in July last year.
